I think that the Sheriff is only half right. We really don't need to talk about gun control. That has been beat to death in this country and has been proven to not work in stopping crime by most European countries as well as Australia, Canada and others. Mexico is a shining example of what the disarming of citizens can lead to. In that country the drug cartels rule the government and the honest people who have no means to resist.
