Ship testing war-on-drugs technology is back in port
MAYPORT, Fla. -- The HSV-2 Swift pulled back in port at 7:30 a.m., and sailors say it was a successful trip.
The Swift used their new technology to assess ships in the fight against drug trafficking. During their deployment, sailors intercepted two boats that fit the criteria. Neither turned out to be a drug smuggling vessel.
One commander told Action News, it remains to be seen if this will save money, but he feels it would have to with all of the manpower it is saving.
