JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Columbia County man is facing charges after police say he lied about a shooting at his home.
The Columbia County Police Department says officers arrived at a home on Northwest Falling Creek Road at 7:40 p.m. Thursday to answer a report of a home invasion and shooting.
The resident, Edward Frank Hardy, told police a man attempted to rob him and shot him in the face.
Upon investigation, police say the complaint was a lie.
According to witnesses, police say Hardy was fighting with his wife inside the house. That's when his daughter attempted to intervene and stop the fight. Hardy allegedly stood from a seated position, approached his daughter and struck her in the side of the head with a handgun that he was holding.
Hardy's daughter told police she felt threatened so she grabbed a small handgun from a nearby table. Knowing that her father was also armed and had already injured her, she fired one shot, striking him in the face.
The daughter left the home while her father fired several rounds from his handgun at her from inside the home.
Hardy was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A .45 caliber handgun and a .38 caliber handgun were recovered at the scene.
Hardy is now being held at the Columbia County Detention Facility on charges of Aggravated Battery and Aggravated Assault.
