Shooting suspect convicted, witness arrested
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A local man has been convicted for a shooting. A witness in the case was also arrested in court Thursday.
Police say in June 2011, Lavonne McAllister got into an argument with another person inside the Star Food Discount Store. He then shot at the other man as he was trying to leave the store. McAllister was arrested and convicted on Thursday for charges of aggravated assault and discharge of a firearm.
During the trial Curtis Watson, a witness, was arrested after he was accused of lying on the stand. When State Attorney's Office investigators went to arrest him in court he tried to run, but he was apprehended. He was charged with perjury and resisting an officer without violence. Watson was also charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana after authorities searched him when he was arrested.
McAllister will be sentenced on August 13.
