JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- Just barely out of prison, released in April after serving three years for another violence conviction, James Rhodes is now accused of killing 20-year-old Shelby Farah after she handed him every cent in the MetroPCS cash register.

"He had no reason to kill my daughter and he had no reason no reason and that tells me he is a very violent person," said Darlene Farah, Shelby's mom.

Farah broke down after Rhodes refused to appear in court Wednesday.

"That's crazy he's got more rights than Shelby," she said.

Rights that she believes Rhodes should have lost years ago with convictions including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Action News has also learned that Rhodes has a history of juvenile violence.

Police say it was a criminal past potent enough for even his own family to turn him in.

"I want them to know that they did the right thing," said Farah.

Farrah's mom says she can sleep a little easier knowing her daughter's suspected killer is back behind bars, but she says she won't really rest until she gets justice for her daughter.

"I'm going to make sure even if it takes the last breath in my body he needs to get the death penalty," she said.

Rhodes isn't due back in court until Aug. 14. Shelby's family will have to wait until then to get the opportunity they've been waiting for for days, to look him in the face.

I would be all for a firing squad and let the Mother have the only gun so the last face he sees is hers...and I think it should happen immediately after the guilty verdict.

HOPEFULLY HE WILL BE IN THE GROUND IN 2014. HE DESERVES IMMEDIATE DEATH. MAYBE HE SHOULD BE SHOT THREE TIMES TOO. OR FEED HIM TO THE SHARKS. HE JUST GOT OUT OF PRISON IN APRIL. HE MUST LIKE TO BE A THUG. THUGS GET NEEDLES. WE, HONEST HARD WORKING PEOPLE OF ALL RACES MUST TAKE THE THUGS OFF THE STREETS, NOW. REPORT CRIME IN YOUR AREAS AND GET ACCW, NOW. DOUG1

One of the major problems with our justice system is the time it takes to execution someone like this, even after he admitted his involvement to police. In cases like this he should have the “fair and impartial trial” Realchange spoke of and if he is found guilty he should be executed swiftly and without mercy. If we stated executing these animals more quickly then I bet we would see violent crimes start to drop and better yet bring back old sparky, a public hanging or a firing squad, because lethal injections don’t really scare many of the harden thugs presently roaming our streets.

We need a fair and impartial trial. Make sure they did not pick a scape goat. There have been men executed in the past for speedy trials with no appeals. Then later it was found out the police forced a confession because the person had criminal past and were done with it. Only bad part is the real murderer was caught and laughed about it afterwards. There have been one guy on death row police was certain it was him strong armed witnesses. He sat on death row 12 years they was stumped about the murder weapons and his defense. Lo and behold they catch guy 12 years later doing the same crimes with clippings of the crime and the guy getting death penalty. Guess what else he had ? The murder weapon and he was caught doing the same type crimes. Police questioned him and he said he got chuckle out them strong arming this who said he was innocent. Turns out the guy on death row was innocent. Prosecutor tried to keep the confession by the real murderer secret took 60 mins on him to admit they had the wrong man in jail but they then said he had been convicted by jury of his peers so he must pay for the crime this was in 1997 or so approx. So make sure the evidence shows this guy is guilty then execute him. There is reason we have jury trials it is to ensure the evidence is not faked or people are not imprisoned at the whims of the state. If he plea bargains it possibly should not be accepted since his crime is especially heinous.

refused to appear in court???? She's right! Obviously if he has that option, then he does have more rights than his victim!!!! Shame on our legislature for creating any law that would allow such an atrocity to take place! This scum should HAVE to appear!!!!
