JACKSONVILLE Fla.-- As our country stands on the edge of the fiscal cliff, Florida stands tall, according to local Republicans. So much so they say the sunshine state should be an example for the United States.

"Look what we're doing in Florida," said Jacksonville Republican Party Chair, Lenny Curry. "We've paid down our debt in Florida, we're not raising taxes on people, we're keeping the cost of living down. Florida is an experiment that I think Washington D.C. can take a lesson or two from."

Local Democrats may not agree on Republican spending cuts, but they too say Florida is doing the one thing Washington cannot; compromise.

"The house and the senate need to come together as we do in Tallahasse," said local State Senator, Audrey Gibson. "There should be no reason that a solution cannot be derived."

Still, local Republicans place the blame on President Barack Obama.

"It starts with leadership," said Curry. "We've had years to deal with this situation and we need leadership in Washington D.C.."

Democrats disagree.

"The leadership in the house, John Boehner, is also a leader," said Gibson. "He's a Republican. So you can't just say that it's a leadership problem and it's the president's fault, the president doesn't make laws."

All local lawmakers can do now is watch, wait and hope that an agreement is reached before the New Year.
