GAINESVILLE, Fla -- The Gainesville Police Department is releasing disturbing new details about the search for missing University of Florida student, Christian Aguilar.
Action News has now learned the person of interest in the case, Aguilar's friend Pedro Bravo, purchased a shovel and a roll of duct tape several days before Aguilar's disappearance according to police.
We've also been told the last activity on Aguilar's phone was logged the night of Thursday September 20, the night he was last seen, at 8:14 p.m. Investigators say that is when the cell phone was powered off. However, Aguilar's phone has not been found.
Searchers have found several other mobile phones while combing the woods and searching for Aguilar, but again, none have been linked to the missing 18-year-old.
Gainesville PD released a new surveillance photo of the two men Tuesday. In it, they said it showed Bravo and Aguilar going into a Gainesville Best Buy store.
Today we've learned Aguilar purchased the new Kanye West CD while inside. Investigators have recovered that CD's wrapping and jewel case, but the CD itself is also still missing.
Police are planning another news update this afternoon at 2pm. Count on Action News to keep you updated on air and online.
Meanwhile, family, friends and volunteers continue to search for Aguilar near Streits Motorcycle Shop. Bravo told police he got into a fight with Aguilar that night that became physical and he left Aguilar on the side of the road, injured.
Bravo is currently in jail charged with failing to render medical attention to someone in need which is a third-degree felony. On Tuesday, a judge set Bravo's bond at $100,000.
