MIDDLEBURG, Fla.-- It's no secret to neighbors who live near Brannan Field Road, or State Road 23 in Clay County, they say, it is dangerous.

"It's really, even to drive at night, it's dark," Marcia Foster said.

Foster is not a fan of recent construction. When we asked her about it, she was blunt.

"As far as this new road, it's going to be horrible."

"You don't like the new road?" we asked.

"Absolutely not," she replied.

What Foster is referring to are frontage roads that will go up on each side of the future First Coast Outer Beltway. Sidewalks and bicycle lanes are also included in the project, but some worry they will do more harm than good.

"I think it'd be more dangerous than anything else having sidewalks and kids walking. I don't think it will be a good thing," June Poljak said.

The death of 13-year-old Brien Alvezios on that road is still fresh on everyone's mind, including Foster's. She says she'll never forget what happened, but still thinks there are better solutions than sidewalks on an already busy thoroughfare.
"More red lights. More streetlights. Maybe more law enforcement out here," she said.

The Brannan Field Road project is expected to be complete by Fall 2013.

Sadly, many older roadways in Clay County have had multiple fatalities and could certainly use sidewalks as well ... CR218 comes to mind.
