OAK CREEK, Wis. (AP) -- Police near Milwaukee are calling a shooting at a Sikh temple domestic terrorism.

The man authorities say killed six in a Milwaukee-area Sikh temple before police shot him was a heavily-tattooed, 40-year-old ex-Army soldier according to sources involved in the investigation, but what triggered his rampage remains unclear.

Sources identified the dead suspect as Wade Michael Page, who was at one time attached to the Fort Bragg Army installation in North Carolina.

Later, federal agents and the local bomb squad swarmed the neighborhood were the gunman lived and evacuated several homes nearby.

Sikh attack spreads fear among US Sikh population

NEW YORK (AP) -- Leaders of Sikh organizations nationwide say Sunday's killings at a Sikh temple near Milwaukee have brought to the surface fears that have lingered since 9/11.

The chairman of the Washington-based Sikh Council on Religion and Education says the shooting was just a matter of time because some people confuse Sikhs with "being members of Taliban or belonging to (Osama) bin Laden."
