TALLAHASSEE Fla.-- It was a bittersweet day for Clay County Detective Matt Hanlin as he traced his fallen partner, Detective David White's name on the memorial wall.
Family, friends and community members honored Detective David White on Monday by adding his name permanently to the Memorial Wall at the Florida Sheriffs Association Headquarters.
Attorney General Pam Bondi spoke at the ceremony honoring White and two other deputy's killed in the line of duty, Brevard County Deputy Barbara Pill and Broward County Deputy Christopher Schaub. Also in attendance, White's family, White's partner Detective Matt Hanlin, and Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler.
This is the second annual event at the Memorial Wall.
Detective David White was killed in February of 2012 during a meth lab raid.
Prosecutors say four suspects were squatting in an abandoned home with Ted Tilley in February when Detective White and his partner, Detective Matt Hanlin, went to the home.
Deputies say Tilley fired on the detectives, killing White and injuring Hanlin. Hanlin fired back, killing Tilley.
Prosecutors say the four other suspects are being charged with murder because they were committing a crime at the time of Detective White's death.
