NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. -- There is a renewed effort to make sure Nassau County residents are prepared in case of emergency. The Nassau County Emergency Operation Manager says only 50 people out of 75,000 in the county have signed up for the new alert system.

The new system is designed to send notifications with community information in a time of emergency. An emergency includes severe weather, unexpected road closures, and evacuations. Residents who sign up for the notifications can get messages three
ways: by phone, emails or text messages. The county's alert system also comes with a feature that allows users to specify quiet periods for times like overnight, church, or meeting so the notifications aren't interruptive.

For more information contact Nassau County Emergency Operations Department.

Glad to see the outreach to the community. For people who want to sign up for their local emergency system, go to www.usnear.org. Thousands of US counties have some kind of emergency notification service, so this address (www.usnear.org) is a great way to find one page that can get to them all
