JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Rona Brinlee personally greets almost every customer who walks into her bookstore The Bookmark. But she fears it could happen a lot less, if lawmakers can't strike a deal.
"It's been on people's minds. Understandably people are concerned about it," she said.
A household making $50,000 a year could lose more than $2,500 if tax cuts are not extended. And Brinlee says she doesn't need a book to tell her how this could end for small businesses.
"Well that's not nothing. I think that people are worried about that. It affects their decisions about spending. So I think it's on all of our minds," said Brinlee.
They won't be the only ones making touch choices. Under Section 179, businesses could claim up to $250,000 in new and used equipment. If Congress goes over the cliff, that would be drastically cut to just $25,000.
"I am hopeful, politicians say cautiously optimistic, that they will come to some resolution, but I think it's on people's minds because that is a fair amount of change," she said.
