JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Investigators lined the streets at San Jose Forest where neighbors say registered sex offender Donald Smith lived with his elderly mother for the last decade.
She's a wonderful woman and I feel sorry for her," said neighbor Mary Gagliardi.

Gagliardi has known Smith's mother for decades and that he had just moved back in with her weeks ago, after he was released from jail for another offense.
Gagliardi says in that short time, she already saw him acting suspicious in his van around the block.
"He bought a little stuffed horse and put it right by the driver's dash, and I said to my husband he's doing it to attract kids-- that's so obvious."
Neighbors are frustrated that Smith was allowed to return next door so soon after his release.
A man who used to do yard work with Smith tells Action News he thought Smith had learned his lesson.
"We're two older guys and the least thing we need to do is get back out there and do what you were doing and he said man I'm not doing anything now," said Smith's former co-worker
Police tell Action News they will maintain a presence in the neighborhood and keep an eye on the home where the suspect lives.
