Smoke from prescribed burns seen over NE Fla. and SE Ga.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Residents across the border region of northeast Florida and southeast Georgia could smell and see smoke this evening from two large prescribed burns, Action News’ Severe Weather Center says.
The Florida Forest Service reports that the prescribed burn in Baker County is nearly 2,500 acres in size and is sending smoke eastward.
Another prescribed burn is in Columbia County and is nearly 700 acres large.
Both fires were set and are being monitored by the U.S. Forest Service.
Officials say the purpose of the burns is to get rid of potential fuel of forest fires.
