JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- For hours on Wednesday, many Sprint customers in North and Central Florida could not make or receive calls on their wireless phones.

A Sprint spokesperson said the outage was caused by what’s called “wireless noise.” A representative with a local cellphone store told Action News some work on towers in the area may have contributed.

The outages were mainly reported between 7-10 a.m. in the Jacksonville area. The city of Jacksonville, a large Sprint customer, also reported disruptions.

While it was a nuisance for many, others enjoyed the break from a constantly ringing phone.

“It was my commute in and normally I get some calls doing work that time of morning. It gave me some peace of mind riding in,” said Tony Culler, a Sprint customer in Jacksonville.

The company said it continues to investigate the outage.
