ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- As the rumble of thousands of motorcycles descend on Daytona Beach, bikers looking for a quieter alternative are taking over St. Johns County.
Tampa natives David Jay and his wife have been going to Bike Week since the early 80s.
This time instead of staying in the middle of all the action, they tried going somewhere a little more peaceful like St. Augustine Beach.
"Last year was just too much, too crazy, too busy, too loud," said David Jay, biker.
St. Johns County is catering to bikers looking for a more laid back atmosphere, like Jay.
It's expected to be an economic boost for the county.
"One of the reasons we had a lot of the business is because Daytona was relatively full," said Glenn Hastings, Florida Tourist Development Council. "A lot of the hotels there wanted minimum stays of five nights."
Many riders have already booked hotel rooms through the weekend, that means they'll be eating in St. Johns County and even shopping there too.
According to Hastings, 15 percent of visitors during last year's Bike Week included a trip to Daytona Beach.
But Jay says, he wouldn't mind missing the crowds this year.
"It's beautiful here, we were just talking if we never get down there we're OK with it," said Jay.
Bike Week begins today and runs through St. Patrick's Day this year.
