ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- St. Johns County deputies have been conducting underage tobacco enforcement in various locations around the county.
Operation "Dry Spring" was the first time the Youth Services section targeted underage tobacco sales in St. Johns County.
Four convenience store clerks out of 31 sold tobacco to a person under the age of 18.
A 16-year old boy asked for a can of Copenhagen at the counter. He would produce his actual identification if asked and state his true age if requested. Undercover deputies witnessed the transaction.
A complaint affidavit for a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor was signed on the four clerks who sold to the underage operative. The charge is a second-degree misdemeanor.
