JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- It's seasoning, slicing and shredding turkey like you've never seen it before. Chefs at St. Vincent's Medical Center spent Wednesday prepping food items for the big day.
"We have turkey and dressing, green beans, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie," Senior Executive Chef Jonathan Smith said.
More than 500 Meals on Wheels clients will have a brown bag dropped off to them via taxi. Organizers say for some people there's no holiday alternative.
"These are the clients that without this staff and what they've done and the transportation they wouldn't have a hot meal," Mary Alice Phelan said.
Once the food is finished, volunteers will put it in bags along with napkins, pie, butter and rolls. To give you an idea of how collosal this project is -- listen to these numbers:
There's 200 pounds of turkey, 125 pounds of green beans, 125 pounds of mashed potatoes and 50 gallons of turkey gravy.
Smith says...at the end of the day, it's a blessing to be a part of.
"We feel very fortunate to be here and we know there's a lot of people who could really use the help around the holidays."
