JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- Police were involved in a late Tuesday morning standoff with a potentially unstable man in the 1800 block of Horn Street.

As a precaution, Seabreeze Elementary School was put on lockdown due to its proximity to the police activity. Parents of Seabreeze Elementary students were reportedly notified by the Connect Duval phone notification system.

We're told the distressed man initially sent text messages to his family this morning threatening to kill himself.

Family members were able to convince the man to come out and give himself up to police. He is now in police custody and will undergo a mental evaluation.

No one hurt in the standoff.

Authorities are notifying the school now to lift the lockdown. And police are searching his home now for weapons.
