State wants death penalty re-instated in Andrea Boyer murder

ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- The State of Florida has filed paperwork to get a local man's murder conviction and death sentence re-instated.

Attorney General Pam Bondi filed a motion for a re-hearing in the murder of Andrea Boyer.

She was killed in 2007 at a veterinary clinic where she worked.

Michael Renard Jackson was convicted and sentenced to die for the killing. But the Florida Supreme Court reversed the conviction, giving Jackson a new trial.

The court said Jackson's interrogation video prejudiced jurors because the deputies repeatedly expressed their views that Jackson was guilty.

Bondi wrote that the trial court did not abuse its discretion in admitting the taped interview. The state says some of the videotape is "admissible," and "redaction, not exclusion is the appropriate remedy."
