Stolen truck takes police on chase across county lines
COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. -- Two people are facing charges after stealing a truck and taking police on a chase across county lines.
The Baker County Sheriff's Office began chasing the Ford F150 in Duval County just after 8:00 a.m. Monday after it was allegedly stolen from a business.
The chase then moved out of Duval County, through Baker County and into Columbia County.
Police say 21-year-old Breon D. Walker and his passenger, 22-year-old Joel K. Higgs, were traveling down Interstate 10 at an estimated 85 miles per hour when Walker lost control near the 310 mile marker. The truck then veered off the road and struck a tree. Walker got out and attempted to run away into the Osceola National Forest.
With the help of K-9 units, police were able to find Walker quickly. Both Walker and Higgs were arrested and booked into the Columbia County Jail. Monday morning they were extradited to the Baker County Jail.
Neither the Driver or passenger were injured in the crash.
