JACKSONVILLE, Fla -- An early start to the thunderstorms today will mean that the worst of the storms will have moved out of metro Jacksonville by 3-4pm and in time for the afternoon commute. Lingering showers, however, will keep highways wet so expect a slow rush hour even though the heaviest rain will have moved away. Heavy thunderstorms across Southeast Georgia will also diminish by late afternoon. So after 4pm most of metro Jacksonville, Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia will experience light to moderate rain with some occasional lightning. Rain will generally end from west to east between 4 and 6pm leaving mostly cloudy skies and cooler temperatures. While a scattered shower or storm could reform overnight, most areas will be sufficiently stabilized so that any nighttime storms would be widely scattered. The weekend will be stormy as well with numerous midday through afternoon storms developing producing heavy rain and gusty winds. A few severe storms will be possible at times. Click
