JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Leaky ceilings, soaked carpets and swollen walls. That is just some of the damage left inside North Main Street Baptist Church after hours of drenching rain Tuesday.

The culprits are holes in the roof that were left after a tree branch came smashing through the roof during storms on Saturday.

"We woke up and came to church Sunday morning and water was everywhere," said North Main Street Baptist Church pastor Nick Phoenix.

Phoenix says he cleaned up the water and had a roofer come out Monday to fix the 24 holes left in the roof.

Or at least he thought.

"They patched some holes and it got dark on us so it just didn't take enough," said Phoenix.

Now the church is underwater again for the second time in two days.

Phoenix says he has a missions group coming Friday, and hopes they can lend a hand in fixing some damage.

He says he was able to salvage most of their food, by putting it in buckets or on tables. But, he says, the real cost will come from the repair work.

Phoenix says he just spent thousands on a new roof just last year. He says he knows how much they cost and is afraid he'll have to fork over thousands again.

Phoenix says the actual church where they hold service isn't damaged, it's the attached building that is.

He also says he thinks it could take months to get the church back to normal.
