JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Duval County's new School Superintendent attended his first board meeting Wednesday.

Dr. Nikolai Vitti was there as four new school board members were sworn in, Fel Lee was chosen as chairperson.

Among the topics discussed, Duval County's fight against the student exodus to Charter Schools.

"As a district we welcome good charter schools, but we need to educate the community that not every charter is a good Charter," said Vitti. "In fact, district schools offer programs charters don't."

Vitti says parents need to know that district schools outperform Charters and that he's looking at adding new and dynamic programs countywide.

A meeting is planned for tomorrow to talk about teamwork within the district, and how to move education forward in the future.
