ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. -- Ashlee LaFlam is out of the hospital and recovering Tuesday.
She told Action News by phone she was bitten by a shark off the coast of Atlantic Beach last Saturday.
LaFlam said she had surgery Sunday night when doctors tried to remove a shark tooth out of the bottom of her foot.
She said that tooth broke and the doctors told her they think there are still pieces left in her foot. LaFlam said she didn’t have to get a skin graft, but she did get a lot of stitches.
She is going back to the doctor Tuesday for an X-ray to confirm if there are fragments still in her foot.
LaFlam told Action News she’s been surfing since 2006 but this was only her fifth time out this year. LaFlam said she was surfing with friends when she suddenly felt the shark bite. Right away, she said she knew it was a shark because she felt its teeth sink into the bottom of her foot.
LaFlam said she will probably go back out surfing again, but right now she is a little nervous. She is recovering at home.
