SAN DIEGO (AP) - The Navy says a former Los Angeles policeman sought for at least three killings stayed on a San Diego base several days ago but a lockdown at the facility has been lifted.
Navy spokesmen say someone reported seeing a man resembling Christopher Dorner on Thursday morning at Naval Base Point Loma. The base was sealed and searched for several hours.
Cmdr. Brad Fagan says Dorner checked into a base hotel on Tuesday but left the next day and isn't there now.
Fagan says Dorner, a reserve lieutenant, left the Navy with an honorable discharge on Friday and may still carry military ID.
Authorities in several states are hunting Dorner, who's believed to have killed an Irvine couple Sunday and a Riverside police officer Thursday morning.
Massive Manhunt for Ex-cop
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Thousands of police officers in Southern California and Nevada are hunting for a disgruntled former Los Angeles officer.
Christopher Dorner is accused of going on a deadly shooting rampage, after warning in an online posting that he would target police.
Among those killed were a police officer who was shot overnight near Los Angeles, and the daughter of a former police captain. The former captain had represented Dorner during a disciplinary hearing before Dorner was fired from the force in 2008 for making false statements.
Police have issued a statewide "officer safety warning." And officers have been sent to protect people who were named in the posting believed to have been written by Dorner.
The LAPD has pulled officers from motorcycle duty, out of fear that they would be easy targets.
In San Diego, where Dorner allegedly tied up an elderly man and tried to steal his boat last night, a naval base was locked down today after a Navy worker reported seeing someone resembling Dorner.
Meanwhile, the hunt for Dorner led to a pair of errant shootings in the pre-dawn darkness today. Authorities say officers guarding a possible "target" shot and wounded two women who were in a pickup like the one Dorner is believed to be driving. Minutes later, officers in Torrance responding to a report of gunshots encountered a similar pickup and fired on the vehicle. The driver wasn't hit.
