JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- JSO has arrested a woman accused of trying to steal a purse from a local couple's home.

Investigators say Melissa Carroll walked into the home off W. Goldenrod Circle on the Southside while the homeowners were in their yard.

Police say she grabbed a purse in the kitchen and tried to run away, but one of the homeowners, the wife, chased her and held her down.

Carroll fought back, and that's when the husband grabbed a baseball bat and hit her in the head. Carroll still managed to get away. She was later pulled over on Beach Blvd. for reckless driving.

Carroll was treated for injuries to her head, then arrested. Investigators say she had a marijuana pipe in her car when she was arrested. Police say, when questioned about her injuries, she told detectives her own husband hit her.

People should know someone before they are so quick to judge... That's not your place and you sure don't know what people have been through in their life to get to that point.
