WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A new contest run by the federal government asks for video skits of people getting hurt.

The Obama Administration hopes they go viral and spread awareness about new health insurance options for young people under the Affordable Care Act.

People can also submit video songs and animation.

Action News' Washington Bureau discovered that U.S. taxpayers are on the hook for $30,000 in cash prizes.

Some of that money will buy prizes that include T-shirts, water bottles and first-aid kits.

“I would say this (is) an incredible cost-efficient way to reach a lot of people,” said Aaron Smith with Young Invincibles Computer Screen.

The watchdog group Citizens Against Government Waste called the contest a “massive misuse of money.”

“It’s a massive government waste thing, a massive misuse of money,” said Leslie Paige with Citizens Against Government Waste.

Head over to our Facebook page and weigh-in on the new contest, here.

"The Affordable Care Act" What a joke!! Obama said we needed it because there was 30 million American's uninsured....Well guess what? There will probably still be over 30 million American's uninsured when it is all said and done. A single person can not get Medicaid, and if they earn less than $11,500 a year(which is equal to a part time job) you do not qualify for Obamacare. A family of 5 that earns $24,000 a year dose not qualify for Medicaid or Obamacare.. So you see, this is not helping anybody and there will still be millions uninsured....smh

OMG, native...This is just a grain of sand in the billions and billions that they waste in 'pet projects'. It's sickening to read some of the things they do with OUR MONEY! ... As for this fiasco, what will be the outcome when some idiot gets hurt, or worse, making one of these stupid videos?
