JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A judge sentenced 16-year-old Zachary Lambert to 15 years in prison for killing Chris Thompson in a traffic crash the day before Thanksgiving in 2011.

In the early hours of November 23rd, 2011, Zachary Lambert went for a joy ride down Beach Boulevard. Police tried to stop Lambert but instead of stopping he ran through a red light and slammed into Chris Thompson's vehicle.  Thompson died on the scene.

Thompson, 22, was heading home from an overnight shift at the Mayo Clinic when Lambert hit him.

Lambert was arrested and charged with Vehicular Homicide, Fleeing and Eluding and Law Enforcement and Grand Theft Auto. In July 2012, Lambert pleaded guilty to all of his charges.

On Thursday afternoon, Judge Tyrie Boyer sentenced Lambert to 15 years in prison followed by 5 years of probation.
