JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 14-year-old high school freshman is helping neighbors and the community heal after a devastating crash left a family changed forever.

Ari Howard organized the concert on Sunday as a benefit for the Ohayon family.

Esther Ohayon was killed and her daughter Orly was severely injured when both were hit by a driver while crossing San Jose Boulevard in September, 2013.

Community members gathered for music, festivities and an auction at the Jewish Center in Mandarin on Sunday.

According to the Jewish Center, Orly Ohayon is usually seen with a smile on her face even though she still requires a great deal of medical attention.

The driver who was involved in the crash is still being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol.
