JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A local teenager faces up to 35 years in prison after pleading guilty in a vehicular homicide case.
A speeding Zachary Lambert, 16, ran a red light and killed 22-year-old Christopher Thompson in a crash at Beach Boulevard near San Pablo Road. Police were trailing Lambert and tried to get him to pull over. Thompson was on his way home from work at the Mayo Clinic.
Lambert pleaded guilty to Vehicular Homicide, Aggravated Fleeing or Attempted to Elude a Law Enforcement Officer, and Grand Theft Auto.
"The maximum sentence would be the only fitting punishment for the death of this innocent victim," said Assistant State Attorney Julie Taylor.
Lambert will be sentenced in August.
