ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- St. Johns County deputies continue to investigate after arresting three teenagers for burglary and arson
Detectives have been receiving tips from the community of a series of crimes in the northwest district of the county. They learned that three adults and two teens were involved in several burglaries.
A witness found out about one of the incidents from facebook and called the sheriff's office, saying that she saw a vehicle in Jacksonville with music equipment that matched items that were possibly stolen from a St. Johns County school.
Detectives there worked with JSO detectives to locate the vehicle and found it off of Race Track Road. During the traffic stop, they noticed several of the items that matched the description of the items stolen in the recent burglaries.
From the investigation from the roadside stop, detectives were able to identify other suspects involved in the case. Three of the suspects were wanted for a burglary to Cunningham Creek Elementary School last month. Another two of those suspect were also involved in an arson to a daycare bus as well.
Montgomery McCaffrey, 18, and two other teens, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old were arrested. McCaffrey, along with the 15-year-old, was charged with accessory after the fact and trespassing. The 16-year-old was charged with burglary theft, trespass, dealing in stolen property and criminal mischief.
Detectives still continue to look into similar crimes in the area and additional charges are pending.
