MARIETTA, Ga. -- The trial for the teenager accused of shooting and killing 13-month-old Antonio Santiago is underway.
DeMarquise Elkins, 18, faces life in prison if he's found guilty of murdering Antonio while allegedly trying to rob the baby's mother in March.
Elkins' mom, Karimah, is also on trial in Cobb County. She is accused of helping to hide the alleged murder weapon.
Jury selection began Monday. So far, the biggest point of contention is finding a racially-balanced jury.
Court insiders tell Action News a jury should be in place by this afternoon, then opening statements will begin.
The second teenager accused in this killing, 15-year-old Dominique Lang, will be tried separately from Elkins, although he is expected to testify this week.
