JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Humane Society is nursing a female pitbull mix with a broken skull and shattered teeth back to health.
"Flo is making a remarkable recovery. She was up and alert on Saturday, just hours after her surgery and seems to be getting better and better every minute," said Executive Director Denise Deisler.
Stitches now hold together a massive gash that doctors say was no accident. There were even metal fragments left in her head from a hammer that was probably used.
"A dog like Flo has a very thick skull. So it's not something that is easily cracked, let alone a hole with marked cracks emanating from the hole. So it took a pretty good amount of force to cause that hole," said Deisler.
Animal control officers found Flo on the Westside on Friday after getting a phone call. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is now investigating.
"Violence is violence. And typically people who do this pick victims who can't defend themselves, like Flo, like children, like the elderly," said Deisler.
Despite being beaten, bruised and broken, Flo's tail hasn't stopped wagging. If you want to contribute to Flo's medical expenses, you can go to https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=jaxhumane&id=10 and contributing to Bo's fund.
