GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Police say they are noticing more and more thefts from drop boxes primarily at apartment complexes in Alachua County.

At last report, more than 30 checks have been stolen from complexes in the Gainesville area.

Law enforcement believes the thieves are using tools to reach inside and remove the checks while businesses are closed.

The Gainesville Police Department warns tenants not to use drop boxes or door slots to drop off valuable items.

Overnight patrols have been increased in order to try to stop the perpetrators.
