JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The only stealing the coaches, players and families at the Arlington Little League are used to seeing are bases. "This place has been here for over 50 years, and we are trying to do good," said Kelly Dixon.
But the the league took a big hit this week after someone broke into their concession stand and stole several wall safes. There was about two thousand dollars inside. "Every bit of that money goes to this ballpark," said Dixon.
"You shouldn't do that to kids. They are just trying to have fun," said father, Darrell Stringfield.
More than 200 kids play on these fields every spring. And league President Kelly Dixon says no child is ever turned away because they can't afford to play.
"We are teaching the fundamentals of baseball which is great for the kids. It keeps them off the street. It keeps them busy. They don't have idle hands to do things such as break into concession stands and take safes of the wall," said Dixon.
Every dollar taken was fundraised and Dixon says it's probably the only way they will get every penny that was stolen back. "These kids work really hard, and it's very upsetting to know that someone took something away from them," said Dixon.
