Jacksonville, Fla.-- The father of a toddler found wandering alone in a parking lot talks to Action News.

Action News has the surveillance video of the toddler wearing just a diaper and t-shirt wandering by himself through a motel parking lot Friday morning. He's only two. The motel owner watched him try to open doors and run around for almost an hour. "I couldn't keep my eyes away from him. I watched and watched until someone came," said owner Daljeet Dev.

Dev was making sure someone didn't take the little boy. He didn't know who was supposed to be watching him. "I had no idea. There are so many kids in the hotel and didn't know where the kid came from," said Dev.

About 30 minutes after the child was first spotted, a woman pulled up. "He ran in front of our car. He tried to open the car door. I said where are his parents. I'm like this kid is running around a parking lot and there was no one to be found," said Tonya Glover.

Glover was just trying to help. "I caught up to him and got his hand. I said where's your mommy and he couldn't tell me. My friend was laying on the horn trying to alert anyone," said Glover.

Police finally showed up and started searching every hotel room to find out where the little guy came from. The boy's father was frustrated about the whole situation. "He's a two year old that climbed out of a hotel door. He opened the lock and got out," said Jackie Fleischer.

Luckily, this time, there was a happy reunion thanks to neighbors who were paying attention. "She was crying. She said I'm so sorry. It's never happened like this in my life," said Dev.

We do know the Department of Children and Families is investigating. The child is back with his parents.

they see us unlock the doors all the time and learn how to do it.then at some point when no one is around they go for it.if your toddler does this once and all turns out well, they more than likely will do/try it again.please be aware.too many of our babies are being hurt.also if you see a toddler out doing what this one was doing all alone.....please assist and call the police.dont just watch a baby run around a lot unsupervised.

The hotel worker just "watched" a baby wander around????? Are you flipping kidding me?? There is no way I am going to just sit back and watch a baby alone in a parking lot!!!!!

Shortly after my wife and I got married, we were living in Norfolk, and in an UNSAVORY part (all parts of Norfolk are unsavory). One nite we were awakened by someone coming in the door about 2 a.m. It was my 3 y.o. stepson who had been outside playing but came back in after a while, because he could not find anyone to play with. The doors had been locked, but he managed to get it unlocked.

That happened to my sister in Orlando. Her daughter pushed a chair up to the door. Unchained it and did the dead bolt and unlocked the the doorknob and got out went to the pool area open the chained linked fence around the pol and fell in. Luckily a five year old saw her fall in that knew how to swim dove in and pulled her out and called for help. If you have kids. Have a sensor alarm put on all indows and doors to keep them safe.
