JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A tornado watch was issued Saturday afternoon by the Storm Predictions Center for several counties in Southeast Georgia because of the possibility of tornadoes.
The watch includes Brantley, Charlton, Camden, Clinch, Glynn, and Ware and runs until 8 p.m.
A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes to form in and close to the watch area.
People in Southeast Georgia should be on the lookout for threatening weather and stay alert for any possible warnings.
Chief meteorologist Mike Buresh says the primary band storms will spread from west to east later this afternoon and evening between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.
A few storms will be capable of producing damaging winds greater than 55 mph. There is also a risk for an isolated tornado.
