JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- The Great White shark that's been tracked to Jacksonville Beach is now hundreds of miles away from northeast Florida.
The
OSEARCH Global Shark Tracker shows Mary Lee swimming in the Atlantic near Beaufort, North Carolina, more than 500 miles from Jacksonville Beach. Researchers have been tracking the 16-foot, 32-hundred pound shark since tagging it in September in Cape Cod.
The shark, named after the mother of one of the researchers, made its way south to the waters off southeast Georgia and northeast Florida during the holidays, before heading up the coast sometime after January 10.
A second shark named Genie was also tracked to the waters off Jacksonville earlier this month. It's now meandering near Savannah.
