ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- The wind is picking up, the sand is blowing and the clouds are getting darker on St. Simons Island.

Despite an impeding storm, people are still in the water, and still hanging out on the beach.

Bill Friedrich said he's not taking any chances, and is going home.

"The wind is whipping really bad. I'm getting it in mg eyes, nose...I can even taste it," he said.

The Glynn County Emergency Management teams says several trees have already blown down in Brunswick, and there are reports of power outages.  Due to limited manpower, they are not closing the beaches at this time.

They do encourage everyone to stay indoors.

Jim Cantore and The Weather Channel are out here, braving the elements like we are. People are lining up to gawk...but my guess is the wind won't keep them here long.
