JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Traffic is flowing in both directions on Atlantic Blvd. tonight. Repair crews are going home for the night, and will get back to work repairing the road on Friday morning.

One small section of a westbound lane is still blocked off because of damage caused by the water main break.

The break happened along Atlantic Boulevard at Sutton Lakes Drive, a few blocks east of St. Johns Bluff Road.

Police shut down Atlantic between St. Johns Bluff and Kernan for several hours this afternoon.

JEA spokeswoman Gerri Boyce says the contractor at fault is EFM. They tell us workers with EFM hit a 6-inch water main while drilling. They will be held responsible for the cleanup costs.

Crews are working to remove the asphalt to determine how much of the road has been washed out underneath.

Several area businesses were forced to close early, many left without water for hours.

"It's disappointing. This is our peak time for selling cars and we've been shut down since this afternoon," said Kevin Snyder, the General Manger of Duval Acura.
