JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- Two trains collided at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens Saturday.

A spokeswoman for the zoo says the collision happened around 3 Saturday afternoon. We're told one train had rounded a corner and was having a problem with its hydraulic system. It wasn't getting traction so the operator stopped it to see what was going on. The spokeswoman says the second train didn't see the stopped train and hit it from behind.

She says passengers on board did sustain some minor injuries, but fire and rescue wasn't called. Some of the passengers were children. She says both trains are back up and running.

Action News did talk with one witness who was upset at how the zoo handled the crash, saying they should have called in an ambulance. Zoo officials tell us, they are aware of the complaints, but say they acted as quickly as possible to make sure everyone was ok.

JBlinton- I'm sure it is easy for you to comment since you weren't there. The 'payday' is the farthest from my mind (being MBiggs31183's wife) but more the safety issue and the fact that it was very badly handled. Someone one could have definitely been badly injured; we were just lucky that was not the case. It really seemed that the zoo could have cared less as they didn't really bother to speak to anyone or get their names. It was up to the individual person to demand any care or concern and even then the Zoo representative originally contested my request for our ticket prices back saying that they 'normally only refunded the cost of the train.' When I asked her if they normally collided with each other was when she okayed our full ticket refund! Crazy! JLDURICK- Thank goodness you were fine! We were concerned about whomever was in that car as the back end of the train due to the damage it sustained! I really hope they focus a little more on safety. That is pretty scary considering they deal with deadly and wild animals on a regular basis. They should have a better system in place for handling an out of the norm and possibly dangerous issue like this.

mbiggs....you got it right. I was in the last car of the first train with my 3 sons and not one zoo employee asked if we were ok. Thankfully we are fine, but the entire situation was handled badly from the beginning to the end. First, operating the train overweight was wrong ( and it apparently happens often since the driver was prepared with his cup of sand to pour on the track for traction!). Then, I feel the first driver should have radioed someone to let them know he was sitting on the track! And third, the second driver should have been LOOKING FORWARD! Ridiculous! I realize it's a train, and usually there is nothing in front of you, but YOU NEVER KNOW! Lastly, the zoo employees didn't ask if anyone was ok. I thought it was just us but apparently they didn't check on anyone. We left right away (after getting a refund) since we were fine and I knew all heck was going to break loose at that customer service counter! I was wondering how many fellow passengers would see this story and think "What a crock!" They left out some critical info! JLDURICK

That's so false. I was on the train. It didn't have a hydraulic problem. It was way over the weight limit so the engineer who just happens to keep sand on board was putting sand on the tracks so it would get traction. It wouldn't go uphill with all the weight! And they did NOTHING to make sure anyone was OK. They didn't even ask! My wife was one who was injured and I think someone needs to be held accountable for gross negligence!
