MACCLENNY, Fla. -- Minerva Dyer spent Thursday afternoon searching through what's left of her belongings, after a decades old tree came crashing down during an afternoon storm.

"It just scared me. All I heard was a big boom and next thing I know everything collapsed."

Limbs now hang through the ceiling, just above the place where she and her disabled husband were watching TV. The tree trapped the Dyers inside, and Minerva Dyer was forced to push back part of the roof to escape. Her husband was taken to the hospital with injuries to his leg.

The storm also knocked out power to more than a dozen homes. Neighbors tell Action News that it took only seconds for the skies to turn black, followed by pouring rain and wind gusts that are estimated to have topped at 45 miles per hour during the 15 minute storm.

Just blocks away, another tree fell onto Todd Weathington's parents home, but they were gone at the time. They returned just minutes after the storm.

"As we drove in we could see all the debris along the road. Then we got home and there was all kind of fire trucks, power trucks and city officials."

Both families are now being assisted by the American Red Cross, meanwhile neighbors are worried worried how much worse it could get this storm season.

"It's just now starting hurricane season and look what we've already had," said Donald Thigpen. "I'm going right now to stock up on supplies because I guess anything can happen anytime."
