JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Court operations in the new Duval County Courthouse are underway. The first death penalty case to be tried there began Thursday afternoon.

Andrew Wayne King, 26, is accused of murdering Felicia Burney in June 2010.

Burney, 22, was 38 weeks pregnant when she was found stabbed to death in the Arlington home she shared with King's girlfriend.

King is facing two counts of first degree murder and burglary with assault, and will face the death penalty if convicted.

Jury selection wrapped Thursday morning and opening arguments began soon after. They will continue Friday morning at 9 AM.

It's the first of 30 cases backlogged in the state attorney's office after four weeks of delays in the opening of courthouse.
