Trooper shot in face in Palatka released from hospital
PALATKA, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol trooper wounded in a shootout is now home from the hospital.
Trooper Lawrence Andrew Litzell was shot during a gun battle last Saturday morning in Palatka.
Litzell pulled over a car for a traffic violation and two men inside the car ran.
One of the men fired at Litzell, hitting him in the face. Litzell managed to fire back, killing 24-year-old Somourian Jamal Wingo.
Action News checked with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement which is handling the investigation, on whether the second man has been identified or captured. We are still waiting to hear back from the FDLE.
Action News spoke with the FHP Friday morning, and a spokesperson said Litzell is at home with his family and friends.
