ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- Deputies in Clay County arrested two men after a short chase.
The incident began at a Kangaroo gas station at Blanding Boulevard and Jefferson Avenue. A deputy spotted a car leaving the gas station with a broken taillight.
The deputy tried to pull over the car, but the driver kept going. At one point, the driver cruised through a roundabout on Dumfries Court West, and sped toward the deputy's car. The deputy had to take evasive action to get out of the way.
The pursuit continued down Dumfries and onto Kirkwall Court where the suspect nearly hit two parked cars.
Ultimately the driver made it back to Blanding, still driving erratically. The driver threw a white, powdery substance out the window. The baggie hit the deputy's front windshield.
The driver continued to speed down Blanding, at speeds between 80 and 100 miles per hour.
The car ran over a strip of stop sticks deployed near Highway 17, deflating all four tires.
The driver continued on Highway 17 and pulled into a road behind a gas station. The driver and the rear passenger bailed out of the car and ran, only to be chased down by police canines.
Devon Proctor, 20, faces charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a motor vehicle, possession of cocaine, destruction of evidence, driving with a permanently revoked license with knowledge, aggravated fleeing, and resisting a law enforcement officer without violence.
Authorities also arrested Theodore Brown, Jr.
Investigators could not locate the bag of white powder that had been thrown during the chase, but the residue on the deputy's car tested positive for cocaine.
