COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. -- A van carrying seven children crashed on I-75 near Lake City, killing two adults.

The crash was reported at 8:18 a.m. near exit 90.

Sgt. Pace with Florida Highway Patrol told Action News the church van from the First Baptist Church in New Port Richey was northbound on I-75 when a rear tire had a tire tread separation. The van overturned and crashed into the woods.

Two adults were ejected from the van. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

They have been identified as 52-year-old Jeff Novak and 44-year-old Michalanne Salliotte, of New Port Richey.

One other adult and seven children were also in the van.

Four of the children were taken to Lake City Medical Center, the other three children (2 stable, 1 critical) were taken to UF Health in Gainesville.

They were on their way to a youth camp in Georgia.
