ST.JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- Two local volunteers are being recognized as the best in the state of Florida.

The Florida Department of Education announced the winners of the Outstanding School Volunteer Award Monday.

Mimi Haley of Ocean Palms Elementary School in St. Johns County, and Beano Roberts of Fernandina Beach Middle School in Nassau County are among the 15 statewide winners.

"I would like to thank these hardworking individuals for committing their time and skills to helping prepare our students to excel in both college and career," said Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart. "This is a prestigious award and I'm happy to be able to recognize those who go above and beyond for Florida's students."

Each teacher will be profiled in the Florida Association of Partners in Education newsletter and a certificate of commendation will be posted at their school.
