Two men face auto theft charges

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Two Jacksonville men have been arrested in connection with a Ponte Vedra Beach crime spree. They are also facing additional charges in Jacksonville Beach as well as Duval and Nassau counties.

The suspects are identified as Steven Michael Richardson, 20, of 4434 Marguerite St., and Wesley Hodge Halkard, 18.  Richardson was arrested Aug. 27 and is charged with two counts of grand theft auto, three counts of grand theft, and one count each of burglary, possession of stolen property and dealing in stolen property. He is in the St. Johns County jail.

Halkard was arrested on Friday and is charged with two counts of grand theft auto, three counts of grand theft and armed burglary. He remains in the St. Johns County jail.

The men were identified after two vehicles were reported stolen in Ponte Vedra Beach in July and another was reported stolen out of Duval County was found in the same area as the Ponte Vedra thefts.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Cheth Plaugher at (904) 209-3984.
