VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WFTV) -- Beach Patrol officials said two swimmers suffered minor shark bites in Volusia County on Saturday.

The first incident happened around 4 p.m. just south of Ponce Inlet in New Smyrna Beach. A 25-year-old Oviedo man was in waist deep water when he was bitten by a shark on his leg, officials said.

Minutes later and about one hundred yards away, a 43-year-old surfer was bitten on the foot, according to beach patrol.

Both bites were considered minor and the victims went to the hospital on their own to be checked out, officials said.

Beach Patrol said it's unclear if the same shark went after both men or if it was two different sharks.

A purple flag warning was flying on Saturday and will remain in effect on Sunday.

I made a deal with the sharks years ago. I stay out of their water and they stay off of my beach. So far, it is working very well.
